Telangana has emerged as the 7th position in the country with total numbers reaching 917 start-ups which have at least one female director. This shows that the number of women participations in entrepreneurship across the state is on a growing trend. Maharashtra tops this list followed by Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Delhi is at third position here.
From the statistics, it is reflected that so far in the year 2023, the total women-led start-ups that are in existence in India comprise the Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada 17,033. This counts among the sectors comprising construction, agriculture, education, food and beverages, healthcare and life sciences, and IT services. As reported these sectors have considerably been high compared to 2019 wherein only 5,675 women-led start-ups existed in the country.
Maharashtra topped the list with 2,916 women-led start-ups, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 1,784 and Delhi with 1,610. Some of the other states with relatively higher counts include Gujarat with 1,432 and Tamil Nadu with 1,334. The growth in Telangana is also remarkable, as more and more women-led start-ups are now being registered in this state every year. From 306 start-ups in 2019 to 391 in 2020 and 520 in 2021, in 2022, the state added several hundred more women-led enterprises to its list and placed itself firmly as one of the key players in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit of women.
Looking at the macro national picture, as on October 31, 2024, total entities approved as start-ups in India numbered 1.52 lakhs, out of which 73,151 start-ups have at least one-woman director. It has shown a growing signal that women are participating more and more in the nation’s leading start-ups, and this also adds importance to the notion of being more diverse and inclusive in being entrepreneurial. A better gender balance can also mean an increasing number of women-led start-ups as a result, offering women more opportunities and support for entrepreneurship in India.
