A joint initiative by KGVK Sanstha and HDFC Bank’s HRDP Project has been initiated called the Samagra Gram Vikas Program where women from 10 hamlets in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district have effectively launched small-scale businesses after receiving training in micro-entrepreneurship development. Women from 7 hamlets of Dulmi block (Bagrai, Bongai, Chatak, Koolhi, Karo, Pancha and Urba) and from 3 hamlets in Gola block (Tongatu, Serengatu, and Saaram, Tongatu) have been empowered at fostering rural entrepreneurship.
The icing on the cake is the Puja Mahila Samuh from Saaram village where 10 women are collectively working on a tent house service and managing it effectively. Plus, the Jeevan Jyoti Mahila Mandal from Koolhi village has now started a food processing business, grinding wheat, large grains, and spices along with 11 other women.
Somen Mahto, the project organizer of the event, opined that the objective of the initiative was aimed at empowering the women’s groups with sustainable economic opportunities and at the same time encouraging women to perform ‘better’. “Our target is to ensure that women are empowered with tools that will enable them to run small businesses that have a lot of market potential in the villages but require little space and publicity,” said Mahto in a press release issued recently.
This is because industries that entered into the market in August and September of 2024 has marked a breakthrough in the fortunes of empowering the rural women. Since they both have the capacity to offer services that would meet the needs of the people in their respective areas, the two companies have the potential to make significant impacts on the economy.
The event, celebrating the launch of these businesses, was attended by women businesspersons such as Gendi Devi, Lalki Devi, Padumlal Devi, Sumin Kumari, Rupa Kumari, and Sangeeta Kumari. Project officials, including Assistant Coordinator Ramesh Kumar Mahato, Dharmendra Tiwari, Pinky Devi, Coordinator Somen Mahto, Village Coordinator Ravindra Kumar, and Jaleshwar Mahato, were also present, providing guidance and support.
