The program, which was introduced earlier this year, intends to teach 15,000 women how to use drones for agricultural tasks including seeding, crop monitoring, and fertilizer application.
In order to carry out two Pilots under the Drone Didi Yojana, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The program, which was introduced earlier this year, is to teach 15,000 women how to use drones for agricultural tasks including seeding, crop monitoring, and fertilizer planting. By transferring skills in new technology domains, the program will enable women to pursue new career prospects.
In order to skill 500 women in small batches of 20 each, Mahindra and MSDE will carry out two pilots at the National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) in Hyderabad and Noida. Instructors from Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs) will instruct the 15-day course, which has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, at these centers.
Dr Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD, Mahindra Group said: “The pilot under the Drone Didi Yojana represents a first-of-its-kind convergence of women, farming, and technology. We are absolutely delighted to provide technology training to grassroots women and ensure that agriculture is equipped for the future.“
“We are excited to announce our partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., leveraging their agricultural expertise for comprehensive training. Two NSTIs in Hyderabad and Noida have been chosen for the pilot program, with the goal of empowering rural women in agriculture. This collaboration advances our mission of upskilling women for nation-building, particularly through the successful implementation of the Drone Didi program in empowering women in emerging trades,” said Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE.
As part of this collaboration, the NSTIs will supply the facilities needed to conduct the training program, host participants in a hostel, and connect with nearby NGOs and Women Self Help Groups to encourage participation. Mahindra Group will cover the pilot project’s operating costs for the duration of the pilot project, including the cost of DGCA License Holder Instructors at the centers, and provide initial set-up support through simulation machinery/drones, simulator controllers, simulator software, desktop computers with i5 processors, and trainers.
The Drone Didi Yojana will be expanded nationwide at designated NSTIs and ITIs with the help of MSDE’s lessons learned and project results from the pilot project.
Mahindra will shortly introduce drone training for women at the company’s skilling centers in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and Zaheerabad, Telangana, as an additional demonstration of support for the Drone Didi Yojana.
