AICTE Launches Women Entrepreneurship in Waste Management (WEWP) Conclave 2023

The Women Entrepreneurship in Waste Management (WEWP) Conclave 2023 was inaugurated on August 30th, 2023, at 11 AM in the headquarters of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Nelson Mandela Marg. The esteemed event was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Chairman of AICTE, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, along with other distinguished dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Vice-Chairman and Hon’ble Member Secretary of AICTE.

The conclave is a collaborative effort between AICTE and the International Institute of Waste Management, designed to address two significant challenges facing our nation – women empowerment and waste management. By merging these challenges, the conclave aims to create an opportunity to empower women while also contributing to efficient waste management in the country.

Prof. T.G. Sitharam expressed his satisfaction with the launch of the Women Entrepreneurship in Waste Management program, highlighting its dual purpose of women’s empowerment and waste management. He commended the concept of turning waste into wealth, emphasizing the need for more entrepreneurs in waste management to contribute to the country’s goal of a 5 trillion-dollar economy.

Ramesh Unnikrishnan, Advisor-II AICTE, welcomed the attendees and acknowledged the privilege of launching WEWP 2023, while Dr. Abhay Jere, Vice Chairman of AICTE, expressed gratitude to the International Institute of Waste Management for partnering with AICTE. He stressed the importance of sensitizing educational institutions about waste management and circular economy principles.

Dr. Jere also emphasized the collaboration with the National Curriculum Framework, ensuring waste management becomes an integral part of the education system. Prof. Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary of AICTE, applauded the program’s focus on women’s involvement in waste management, acknowledging women’s natural inclination towards environmental sensitivity.

  1. Bineesha, Executive Director of IIWM, highlighted waste management as a promising sector for entrepreneurs, particularly women. She emphasized women’s innate management abilities, aligning with the program’s goal to prepare them for their entrepreneurial journey.

The conclave is a significant step in harnessing women’s potential in waste management, a sector with a promising 7.9% CAGR growth rate in India. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Dr. Abhay Jere, Prof. Rajive Kumar, Dr. Ramesh Unnikrishnan, and Ms. P. Bineesha, along with officials and supporting staff from AICTE, making it a pivotal occasion that addresses both women’s empowerment and sustainable waste management.
