ASDC at ACC Thondebhavi Transforms Rural Women’s Lives Through Skill Development

ACC, a prominent cement and building materials company under the Adani Portfolio, is making significant strides in empowering rural communities in Karnataka by offering skill development opportunities. The Adani Foundation’s Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC) at ACC Thondebhavi has been at the forefront of these efforts, helping young individuals, particularly women, acquire skills that transform their lives. Four recent success stories highlight the profound impact of these programs, illustrating the potential of upskilling to create lasting change.

One remarkable story is that of Channamma KS, a 36-year-old woman with both a physical disability and speech disorder. Despite completing her Bachelor of Arts degree, Channamma struggled to find employment and relied on her farmer father and daily-wage laborer brother for support. Her life took a transformative turn when she joined ACC’s Saksham initiative and enrolled at ASDC Thondebhavi. After completing a three-month training program, Channamma secured a job as a back-end executive at Google in Marathahalli, earning ₹15,000 per month, along with free food and accommodation. “I never imagined I would have this opportunity,” she said. “ASDC gave me the skills and confidence I needed to succeed, and now I can support myself and my family.”

Another inspiring case is that of Gowthami GN, who had to discontinue her education after class 12 due to financial difficulties. Coming from a family dependent on agricultural labor, Gowthami’s future seemed uncertain. However, after joining the Retail Sales Associate course at ASDC Thondebhavi, her prospects improved. Upon completing her 2.5-month training, she secured a retail job with an annual salary of ₹2.25 lakh. “ASDC gave me the chance to learn new skills and build a better future for myself and my family. My parents are so proud of me,” she shared.

Sisters Vanaja GR and Nirmala GR, both forced to end their education after class 10 due to family responsibilities, also benefited from ASDC’s training programs. After completing the Retail Sales Associate course, they secured jobs in retail, earning a combined annual income of ₹4.51 lakh. “We are so grateful to ASDC for this opportunity. We can now support our parents and create a better future,” they said.

These success stories demonstrate how the initiatives of ACC and the Adani Foundation, through ASDC, are transforming lives by empowering rural women with valuable skills. These programs not only uplift individuals but also contribute to the broader goals of sustainable growth and national development.
