Womaniya, a program to empower women entrepreneurs that was started in 2019, is being actively promoted by Indian government.
Through a unique platform, the program seeks to promote women’s involvement in government procurement. The procurement process for a number of products has been streamlined by the government. These include accessories, handicrafts, handlooms, jute and coconut fiber products, bamboo products, organic food, spices, home décor, office furniture, and more.
The initiative is in keeping with the Indian government’s goal of providing micro and small companies (MSEs) run and owned by women with a 3% government procurement subsidy.
“The “Womaniya” initiative seeks to address the triple challenge of “access to markets”, “access to finance” and “access to value-addition” faced by women entrepreneurs and strives to align the untapped entrepreneurial energy of last-mile producers and service-providers in India with local Government buyers,” CEO of Government e-Marketplace K. P. Singh said.
He emphasized the resource’s dedication to social inclusion through programs like “Make in India” and “Vocal for Local.”
