The Best Marching Contingent award for this year’s Republic Day Parade has been earned by an all-women contingent from the Delhi Police, which marched down the Kartavya Path during the 75th Republic Day celebrations. The esteemed award will be presented to the Delhi Marching Contingent on Martyrs’ Day (January 30). The history-making moment on January 26 saw the Delhi Police women’s contingent, comprising solely women personnel, marking a first in the force’s history for Republic Day. Notably, 80 percent of the participants this year hailed from the northeastern states.
In an effort to “bridge the gap” between the police force and the people of the eight northeastern states, the Delhi Police has a recruitment policy focusing on personnel from these regions. The marching contingent of 194 women head constables and constables during the 75th Republic Day Parade was led by IPS officer Shweta K Sugathan. It is noteworthy that the Delhi Police has received the prestigious title of the best marching contingent 15 times, with the most recent recognition in 2021.

The motto of the Delhi Police is “Shanti, Seva aur Nyaya,” which translates to peace, service, and justice.
During the Republic Day event in Delhi, French President Emmanuel Macron served as the chief guest. As part of the celebrations, two Rafale fighter jets, accompanied by a ‘Phoenix’ multi-role tanker transport aircraft from the French Air Force, soared through the skies of Delhi. A notable highlight of the grand parade was the presence of a 30-member band contingent from France. This isn’t the first instance of the French Armed Forces participating in India’s Republic Day celebrations; they first took part in 2016, becoming the inaugural foreign military contingent to join the ceremony in India. Furthermore, in July of the previous year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored as the guest of honor at the Bastille Day Parade in Paris.
