700 One Stop Centres Planned Across the Country: Smriti Irani

The One Stop Centre is a scheme of the Women and Child Development Ministry set up under the Nirbhaya Fund and aims to support and assist women facing violence in public and private spaces, including domestic violence. These centres have an administrator, case workers, medical personnel, police facilitation officer, psycho-social counsellor, legal counsellor, security guard, IT staff and multi-purpose workers.

On the 32nd foundation day event of the National Commission for Women, Union Minister Smriti Irani praised the accomplishments of the 24×7 helpline for women. She highlighted that One Stop Centres, designed to assist women who have experienced violence, have been set up in over 700 districts nationwide, providing aid to approximately 8.3 lakh women.

During the 32nd foundation day celebration of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Ms. Irani highlighted that the One Stop Centres have assisted over 8.3 lakh women to date. The Union Minister for Women and Child Development also commended the substantial efforts of the emergency response service provided through the NCW 24×7 helpline for women.

Highlighting the crucial role of women in the nation’s advancement, she underscored the substantial contribution of women to the country’s GDP. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma stated that the commission is actively striving to establish favorable conditions that encourage women’s increased participation in social, economic, and political activities.

Established as a statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the National Commission for Women was tasked with the responsibility of reviewing Constitutional and Legal safeguards for women. Its mandate includes recommending legislative measures for remedy, facilitating the redressal of grievances, and providing advice to the government on all policy matters affecting women.
